The High level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) took place from 5th- 18th July, 2022 in New York under the theme “Building back better from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) while advancing the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development ”. Our member from Sri Lanka joined HLPF this year along with our accomplice from Argentina (also a member of Vecinas Feministas). Both countries were conducting Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) at HLPF this year.
During the HLPF, we engaged through the Women’s Major Group (WMG) by contributing to the annual WMG position paper, participated in the language advocacy group to provide input to the Ministerial Declaration and contributed to the WMG statement during the review of SDG5 on gender equality. We used our Action Agenda as a baseline for these interventions and contributed language on universal access to a comprehensive package of SRHR services, right to safe abortion, public financing of the SDGs and comprehensive sexuality education (CSE). We spoke in a side event organized by the WMG during HLPF where we shared the work by IWRAW Asia Pacific and RESURJ to locate and leverage the interlinkages between human rights frameworks and sustainable development.
Sachini from RESURJ co-wrote the political analysis that emerged from members of the WMG after HLPF.
