On 24-26 June 2013 a regional ICPD review UN ESCWA meeting took place in Cairo with a theme “Development Challenges and Population Dynamics in a Changing Arab Region”. The outcome document of the conference, which is not yet available in English, does include references to sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights but fails to recognize sexual rights. The conference was hosted by the League of Arab States and preceded by the Arab Youth Forum, organized by the Arab Youth Coalition.
Among the participants of the youth meeting was Lynn Darwich of the Coalition for Sexual and Bodily Rights in Muslim Societies in Lebanon who is also a RESURJ member.
Young people sent their recommendations to decision-makers in the form of a Call to Action.
Also, Arab women’s NGOs sent out their recommendations.
