The Lotus Identity
Zambia
The Lotus Identity Zambia is a not for Profit, Non-Governmental Organization with a vision to empower and realize the rights and potential of the marginalized and down trodden populations in Zambia. Formed in 2015 by passionate and dedicated individuals, the organisation dream is to see to it that oppressive laws, views, norms and cultures are addressed in order for the affected to be treated as human beings free from discrimination. The organisation is founded on the premise that all people must rise above their adversities in a spirit of oneness, cooperation and mutual respect in order for them to blossom into productive and healthy individuals for the betterment of the larger community. The Lotus Identity Zambia is committed to seeing the oppressed bid farewell to their scarred past and step into greatness, just like the lotus flower rises above the murky pond water to project to the rest of the world; its brightness.
Zambia has oppressive laws and a non-accommodating environment against marginalized populations particularly the LGBTIs, Women, People Living with HIV and AIDS and Sex Workers. These populations need advocates that can speak for them and begin to push policy makers and opinion makers to address theses discriminations. Unlike other organisations working in the same arena, the Lotus Identity distinction is its focus to not only embark on advocacy but also to capacitate the affected groups with knowledge, consciousness, skills and spaces to speak to the lived realities. The organisation is non membership based but embraces all affected populations.
