On February 26, 2020, the first case of Covid-19 in Brazilian territory was confirmed. From that moment to the present day, the number of diagnoses, hospitalizations, and deaths in the face of the greatest health crisis of the century is increasing. The new coronavirus arrived in Brazil at a time of broad political, economic, and social setbacks, marked by the growth of domestic violence, sexual violence, murders of LGBTI+ people and the advance of unemployment and poverty, intensifying what is most cruel in the daily violation of human rights. As part of the script of the Brazilian patriarchal system, the impacts of this humanitarian crisis have reached the different subjects disproportionately, exposing and densifying gender, racial and territorial disparities in a country marked by social gaps. Women – especially black and peripheral young women – saw their lives substantially worse with the advance of Covid-19, being forced to live with the cruel combination of hunger, poverty, violence, neglect, unemployment, and extensive and intensive workloads.
Although state attention was insufficient to contain the pandemic’s progress, it mobilized forces (and/or took responsibility against the mobilized forces) that violated the sexual and reproductive rights of women, girls, and people with utero, throughout this period. Once again, we have followed, not without confrontations, attempts to attack the conquered rights. One case that illustrates this context well is the case of a 10-year-old child, resident in the state of Espírito Santo, who became pregnant because of continuous rapes suffered inside her family. When needing to interrupt the pregnancy, she was greeted with cries of “murderer” by parliamentarians and religious fundamentalist representatives at the hospital door where she did the procedure, highlighting that the attacks on sexual and reproductive rights did not go into social isolation. The episode was followed by an ordinance from the Ministry of Health that sought to hinder access to abortion provided by law. It is clear evidence that the state continues to take advantage of tragedies to make women’s lives even more precarious.
In the midst of chaos, it is we, women, LGBTI + people and black people who have “found breath” and are mobilized against the different forms of setback.
Despite this dramatic scenario, we cannot fail to mention what was done as a counterproposal and resistance to the advancement of conservatism and what will be.

Above all, black women, and trans persons are the ones who have made critical political investments as a weapon against absurdities. Acting to guarantee food security in their territories, assisting and training other activists, denouncing this government of death nationally and internationally, focusing on parliaments (national and subnational) so that no rights are taken away from us, or even, prostrating ourselves to a hospital, in defense of the child in the case mentioned above. Such actions illustrate that if inequality, unemployment, and violence have the face of a black woman, resistance will also have it. It is by “pulling the springtime out with teeth” that feminisms, in strategic alliances, have defended and announced another possible world in the face of the pandemonium experienced, reaffirming our vigilance and the strengthening of our resistance networks.
Na Crise Sanitária, Nossos Direitos Continuam Sob Ataques
Em 26 de fevereiro de 2020 foi confirmado o primeiro caso de Covid-19 em território brasileiro. Daquele momento até os dias atuais, são crescentes os números de diagnósticos, internamentos e mortes frente à maior crise sanitária do século. O novo coronavírus chegou ao Brasil em um momento de amplos retrocessos políticos, econômicos e sociais, marcados pelo crescimento de violências domésticas, violências sexuais, assassinatos de pessoas LGBTI+ e avanço do desemprego e pobreza, intensificando o que há de mais cruel na cotidiana violação dos direitos humanos. Como parte do roteiro do sistema patriarcal brasileiro, os impactos dessa crise humanitária têm chegado de forma desproporcional aos diferentes sujeitos, expondo e adensando disparidades de gênero, raciais e territoriais num país marcado por abismos sociais. As mulheres – sobretudo jovens negras e periféricas — viram suas vidas piorar substancialmente com o avanço da Covid-19, sendo obrigadas a conviver com a combinação cruel de fome, pobreza, violência, negligência, desemprego e cargas de trabalho extensivas e intensivas.
Apesar de a atenção estatal ter sido insuficiente para conter o avanço da pandemia, ela mobilizou forças (e/ou se desresponsabilizou frente à forças mobilizadas), que atentaram contra os direitos sexuais e direitos reprodutivos de mulheres, meninas e pessoas com útero durante todo esse período. Mais uma vez acompanhamos, não sem enfrentamentos, tentativas de ataques aos direitos conquistados. Ilustra bem esse contexto o caso de uma criança de 10 anos de idade, residente no Espírito Santo, que engravidou em decorrência de contínuos estupros sofridos dentro da própria família. Ao precisar fazer a interrupção da gestação, ela foi recebida com gritos de “assassina” por parlamentares e representantes fundamentalistas religiosos na porta do hospital onde realizou o procedimento, colocando em evidência que os ataques aos direitos sexuais e direitos reprodutivos não entraram em isolamento. O episódio foi sucedido de uma portaria do Ministério da Saúde que buscava dificultar o acesso ao aborto previsto em lei, sendo prova evidente de que o estado continua se aproveitando de tragédias para precarizar ainda mais a vida das mulheres.
No meio do caos, somos nós, mulheres, pessoas LGBTI+ e pessoas negras que temos ‘encontrado fôlego’ e nos mobilizado contra as diferentes formas de retrocesso.
Apesar desse dramático cenário, não nos cabe deixar de mencionar o que foi feito como contraproposta e resistência ao avanço do conservadorismo e também do que será.
No meio do caos, somos nós, mulheres, pessoas LGBTI+ e pessoas negras que temos ‘encontrado fôlego’ e nos mobilizado contra as diferentes formas de retrocesso. São, sobretudo as mulheres negras, pessoas trans aquelas que têm realizado importantes investimentos políticos como arma contra os absurdos. Atuando para garantia da segurança alimentar em seus territórios, assistindo e formando outras ativistas, denunciando nacionalmente e internacionalmente esse governo de morte, incidindo junto aos parlamentos (nacional e subnacionais) para que nenhum direito nos seja tirado, ou mesmo, prostrando-se em frente a um hospital, em defesa da criança do caso acima citado. Tais ações ilustram que se a desigualdade, desemprego e violência têm o rosto de uma mulher negra, a resistência também o terá. É “arrancando a primavera nos dentes” que os feminismos – em alianças estratégicas – têm defendido e anunciado outro mundo possível frente ao pandemônio vivido, reafirmando nossa vigilância e o fortalecimento de nossas redes de resistência.
