The world as we know it continues to shift with every new day—chaotic, unpredictable, and full of uncertainty. In times like these, it’s tempting to hold onto what feels familiar. And yet, this moment invites us at RESURJ to embrace change: to shed old ways of working, to push against rigid NGO logics and structures, and to push against hierarchies, soullessness and disconnection from our realities, to experiment with new ways of feminist organizing that better reflect how we are making sense of today’s world.
As an alliance of younger feminists under 40 years of age, we are acquainted with frequent transitions. We are intentional in creating moments of knowledge and memory sharing. Sometimes it works and other times we adapt to abrupt changes. This is a profound transitional moment for our alliance, one that calls us to reimagine feminist leadership. A feminist leadership that is agile, grounded, centering care, and is responsive to the evolving needs of younger feminists in the global south. To get there, we recognize that time is a valuable asset, as it allows us to reflect, dream, and imagine how we can do things differently and how these changes contribute to the transformation of our movements and communities. With that in mind, we have marked June 2025 as the beginning of an 18-month interim leadership process—a journey through which we will collectively reimagine leadership, accountability, and organizing as a transnational global south feminist alliance.
Marking 15 Years and a Leadership Transition
As we celebrate our 15th anniversary this year, we take a moment to honor the collective resilience, growth, and impact we’ve cultivated together over the years. During our recent strategy meeting in December, we reaffirmed our commitment to deeper, more intentional work—and identified economic justice, climate justice, and challenging criminalization as three core pillars anchoring our cross-regional and cross-movement organizing toward achieving sexual and reproductive justice.
This milestone year also brings with it a significant leadership transition. Sachini Perera, who has served as RESURJ’s elected Executive Coordinator since 2021, will conclude their term at the end of May 2025. After years of leadership and dedication, Sachini will be stepping away from their executive role and RESURJ membership to take a much-deserved rest that allows her to also dream, and imagine—before continuing their magic and organizing work in new terrains. We are profoundly grateful for everything Sachini has brought to RESURJ since they joined as a member in 2017, and we send them off with deep love and appreciation.
Shifts in Our Secretariat

As we step into this new chapter of reimagination, changes are also unfolding within our Secretariat. We recently said goodbye to our long-term organizational consultant, Bruna David, a feminist from Brazil, whose contributions have deeply shaped our internal processes.
In May, we welcomed Sara Martínez (member from Mexico) and Umba Zalira (member from Malawi), both RESURJ members, who are now leading our programs, advocacy, and communications work alongside Alya El Marakby (Egypt), our current Campaigns and Communications Coordinator. Some responsibilities previously held by the Executive Coordinator are now being carried forward by Laura Valenciano, our Finance and Operations Coordinator and RESURJ member from Costa Rica.
We’re also excited to announce that Nana Abuelsoud, RESURJ member from Egypt and former Programs and Advocacy Coordinator, is stepping into the role of Interim Executive Coordinator during this transitional phase.
We aim to cultivate this reimagination process towards the end of 2026. By then, we anticipate further shifts in our Secretariat and leadership structures—guided by what we’ve learned, what we dream, and what we break and build together along the way.
To support this process, we’ll be working with in-house expertise and external consultants to document our journey, share our learnings, and open space for dialogue and reflection.
Looking Ahead
Over the next two years, we will be inviting young feminists from Latin America, the Pacific, Asia, and the Caribbean to join the RESURJ membership. We plan on sharing some of the emerging insights and learnings in a dedicated edition of RESURJ’s Reflections, to be accessible to our allies and peers. We believe that this expanded and more inclusive membership will deepen our collective strength and bring fresh perspectives to our younger feminist organizing.
This is a time of experimentation, transformation, and trust building. We thank you for being in community with us—and we look forward to reimagining, resisting, and roaring together.
